When I was 8 years old, I first noticed tremors and restless sitting in my great aunt – she had Parkinson‘s disease. Some time ago, when my best friend told me about her voluntary job walking with an elderly lady with Parkinson‘s, I had an idea. The lady had told her that she no longer wanted to go out to eat in a restaurant. Due to her disease she regularly dropped her cutlery which created a lot of noise and attention, which in return made her feel uncomfortable. Therefore I came up with a product concept in which knife and fork can be hold regularly in a hand but are „secured“ through magnets. The magnets which are“hidden“ as rings prevent the cutlery from falling in the event that the user looses the grip. Thereby a restaurant visit is no longer an event of stress and fear but can finally be enjoyed.
Fork
The EAsyT cuttlery is made of magnetic metal in silver. In pure form the only magnetic metals are iron, nickel and cobalt. Since iron is the lightest metal and can be produced without rusting, it is best suited for EAsyT cutlery.
Knife
For the cutlery the same characteristics count, which are: magnetic metal, flat surfaces to easily connect to the the ring, wide surfaces at the bottom of the cutlery to better lay in the hand.
Ring
The EAsyT ring consists of a flexible band and a magnetic metal part. The flexible band can have all kinds of colours.
The EAsyT concept constists of 3 elements which are listed on the left. A spoon was not involved as there is a product out there already.
In this tests I tried to find out, where the ring should be placed.
