ROZY | CSM PROJECT

Briefing

In this project, we had the task of creating an idea which contributes to one of the 17 UN Development Goals of 2022. Each group got an area which we had to develop an idea for, ours was Finsbury Park in North London. As part of our observations, we had to identify problems within this area that correlated with one of the UN’s development goals. The outcome was supposed to be a product in the field of speculative design, that would help address the identified problem. Through this process, we hoped to make a positive impact in that community.

Idea

For tackling the UN development goal number 7 – affordable and clean energy – we developed the concept of “Rozy,” a one-person bench with a roof that serves as both a shelter from rain and a source of warmth through integrated infrared lights.

To power the benches we planned to team up with Pavegen, which pioneered floor panels that generate energy when walked upon. These panels should be installed throughout the park, playgrounds and sports fields. Through this, children generate electricity by running around on the panels, which can then be utilized to warm the parents while they take care of them. This sustainable and health-conscious concept fosters a more significant motivation for parents to go out with their children and encourage them to engage in outdoor play.

The benches and logo resemble each other to create a coherent appearance. The name “rozy” is a combination of the …red in infrared and cozy.
